2017 Shriners
International Convention to be held
at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach
The Ancient Arabic Order of the
Nobles of the Mystic Shrine
–commonly known as the Prince Hall
Shriners-- will hold its 2017
Imperial Session of Shriners
International at the Ocean Center in
Daytona Beach. Gary Bergenske, an
Orlando businessman who will be the
head of Shriners International in
2017, made the announcement today at
Victory Lane at Daytona
International Speedway.
The decision must be ratified by
Shriners representatives at the
upcoming session in Charlotte, but
Bergenske says this vote is just a
formality.
”My wife and I have been coming to
Daytona Beach for years and when it
came to the possibility of having
the Imperial Session here we thought
it would be wonderful to be able to
share all of the beauty and
hospitality this area has to offer
with our 20,000 friends,” said
Bergenske.
The convention is expected to draw
20,000 attendees. The week-long
Imperial Session includes workshops,
official meetings, mentoring
sessions and the highlight for the
conference – a parade featuring
bicycles, clowns, strollers and
marching clubs.
Daytona Beach will be the smallest
city to ever host the Shriners
International convention. Past city
hosts include St. Louis in 2008, San
Antonio in 2009, and Toronto in
2010.
Shriners International is a
fraternity based on fun, fellowship
and the Masonic principles of
brotherly love, relief and truth. It
has approximately 325,000 members in
194 temples (chapters) in the United
States, Canada, Germany, Mexico, the
Philippines, Puerto Rico and the
Republic of Panama. Shriners
International also supports Shriners
Hospitals for Children®, a health
system of 22 hospitals dedicated to
providing pediatric medical care,
world-class research and educational
opportunities for medical
professionals.
